Our August Concert

Our August night was a departure from our normal concert night, this was because myself and Rebecca were working away so would not be there to organise anything. We were delivering three weeks of training in London and Winchester so were nowhere nearby to return and run the club. Instead we changed the night to a practice night. For those who have not been to our practice nights they not an organise class of accordionists playing one tune. These nights are similar to the breaks we have in the concert nights. People all over the room, talking, drinking coffee (or other beverage from the bar). There are people dotted around the room playing the accordion in various places either solo, in pairs, or congregating around Bob Seen on the drum kit. None of this is organised, it’s a free for all night where people spend the evening however they like. It is not uncommon to see a set of tools out while an accordion is repaired and people comparing notes on playing technique, tunes, sheet music etc. Some people come to these nights without an accordion just to enjoy the social atmosphere at the club. These nights are a chance to talk all night without having to keep quiet. So now when you seen Practice/Social in the list of forthcoming nights in the newsletter or on the website, you will know what we get up to, and hopefully you might like to join us.

Bedroom Programmer

As many of you know, I have been teaching computer based subjects for a long time and writing computer software for even longer. I have been teaching computer subjects for 23 years and writing software for 32 years! I have recently created a new website to teach computer games programming in a video based course that can be used by anyone from aged 8 upwards. This site is aimed at children or young people who would love to write their own games, or to adults who would like to make a second income. No previous programming experience is needed and no graphics skills are needed. I have designed the course so anyone can follow the videos to make professional looking computer games in no time at all. I tested the course over summer on 150 children aged 8 to 17, and all of them could follow the course with no help at all. The course teaches you to write computer games by using visual based drag and drop commands that don’t need you to write lines of code. The course is a bargain at £40 and could be the start of a childs or even an adults new career selling their own computer game creations. If you know of any parents looking for a useful gift for a child who would like to learn to make their own games then please tell them to go to www.BedroomProgrammer.com Filming and creating the course was a big task, but I now have the even harder task of finding the parents, children or adults who would like this training. A rival is charging $197 for a similar course, so mine is a bargain 🙂

Lancashire Night With The Lancashire Fettlers

This Wednesday sees The Lancashire Fettlers making a welcome return to the club. We last saw Michael and Jonty early last year when they entertained us with such tunes as Happy Hours, Reine De Musette, Wonder Hornpipe, Reels, Blue Bell Polka, Alpine Slopes, The Morino Waltz, Snow In Summer and St Annes’ Reel. There were also lots of well known songs such as Dirty Old Town, The Leaving Of Liverpool, Blackpool Belle, The Fields Of Athenry, Mon like Thee, Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls, Manchester Rambler, and many more. I can’t guarantee how many of the above tunes they will play for us on Wednesday but I can guarantee it will be a very entertaining night. Please tell your friends and try to bring someone new along to the club for a great night out. Lancashire nights are often quite popular in non accordion circles so the night will appeal to many non accordionists.
