Our July Concert

Our July concert started with Bernard Bamber playing The Leaving Of Liverpool, Liverpool Lou, Seth Davey, On Mother Kelly’s Doorstep, In My Liverpool Home, If your Irish, with My Shilelegh Under My Arm, Annigans Hoolie, Goodnight Irene, Daisy, Cruising Down The River, Green Glens Of Antrim and Galway Shawl. Our next player was Patrick Halpin playing The Fields Of Athenry, Spancil Hill, One Fair County In Ireland, Galways Bay and McAlpine Fusiliers. Colin Ensor followed Patrick by playing The Blacksmith, My Donegal Shore, The Maigret Theme, The Gypsy (by The Inkspots), Footsteps Of A Fool and Charmaine. Ann Parker then took to the stage and gave us Romance, Wedding Tarantella and Under Paris Skies. Our next player was Rebecca playing Home On The Range, My Wild Irish Rose, Valse De Amile and a great version of Glamour Girl. It was now medley time with Bill Agnew who played No Regrets, La Vie En Rose, A Hard Days Night, Hey Jude, Achey Breaky Heart, Twilight Time, Down By The Riverside, Come Home Bill Bailey, 12th Street Rag, Slow Boat to China, Carolina In the Morning, Bye Bye Blues, The Sheikh of Araby, Song Sung Blue, Birth Of The Blues, Love Letters in The Sand, Baby Face, Forever Blowing Bubbles, Teddy Bears picnic, In The Mood, Inky Pinky Parlez Vous, The Man Who Broke The Bank At Monte Carlo, Lili Marlene, Seigfried Line, Sailor, I Don’t Know Why, Blaze Away, The Last Waltz, Now Is The Hour and Show Me The Way To Go Home. After a great selection of pieces by Bill I had to try to follow that ! I tried my best and played Alpine Breezes, Return To Sorrento, Fleur De Paris, Blackpool Belle, and finally to finish the night I played Now is the Hour as an instrumental on the first time through and singing the second time. This had been a great night of entertainment and its so nice to see local players entertaining us in the great relaxed atmosphere we have at the club.

This Wednesday

This Wednesday has been changed to a practice night. Due to work commitments we have had to change the 20th of August to a practice night, which means you now have three practice nights in a row before our next concert night on the 17th of September when we see the welcome return of Tom and Cynthia.

Royal Lancashire Show Back

Great News: After 3 years of no shows The Royal Lancashire Show is back in 2015, this will be on the 15th and 16th August. The show will be held at Salesbury Hall, Ribchester. A New Office has opened at Suite 29, Manor Court, Salesbury Hall Road, Ribchester, Preston PR3 3XR, telephone 01254 914362. The office will initially be staffed on a part time basis on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the society hope to extend the opening hours of the office soon. Stewards for all sections are needed… From Pigs to Poultry… Sheep to Shires… Cheeses to Chickens… Horses to Horticulture. You Could win four tickets for next years show, simply by tell the society what you would like to see at next year’s Show. 25 people can each win 4 first day tickets for the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show 2015. All you have to do is send your list of just what you would like to see, or do, at the Show. A panel of judges will choose the best 25 and they will each win tickets. You should email your suggestions to info@royallancs.co.uk. The Closing date for entries is 1st of October 2014. The shows website can be found at www.royallancs.co.uk, there is not much information on there at the moment but I’m sure as the planning gets underway they will be adding more information about what will be happening at the show.

 

The Paul Hayes Collection

Paul Hayes the Antique Expert who came and filmed at the club a few years ago is the lead singer in a band called The Paul Hayes Collection,, they are a rock and roll group who are playing at the The Philaharmonic, Foxhall Road, Blackpool, Lancs, FY1 5BL on the 29th August, 12th September and 24th October starting at 8:30pm. The Paul Hayes Collection will also be joined on stage by Joe Marcel as Elvis and Aaron Levi from ITV’s X Factor. Tickets cost £6 . For more information telephone 0844 477 1000 .

 

Birmingham Accordion Centre Special Event

Birmingham Accordion Centre held a special event on 7th August where Roy Hendrie was demo-ing the Limex V3 Midi Systems with the New Celtic Sound Board, the event was free entry The event was open from 10am—2:30pm and 6pm—9pm. A good time was had by all. Accordion Centre repair accordions and have a large showroom of accordions for sale, they are also official dealers for the V3 midi system. We recommend visiting them, there is always a big welcome at the door (Especially if you tell them Leyland Accordion Club sent you 🙂 )

 

Blackburn Festival

Will return to Witton Park, Preston Old Road, Blackburn, BB2 2TP. on Saturday 6th September 2014. Organised by a voluntary committee. Headlining on the main stage are Eastbourne alternative rockers Toploader other artists include the Northern Jazz Orchestra, Sky Valley Mistress and harmonious rock ‘n’ rollers The Slydes interactive theatrical installation presented by Nutkhut and titled “Navrattan: A Quest for the Lost Gems”. The story is inspired and informed by traditional Indian folklore and the immersive sets will enchant young and old alike. www.blackburnfestival.co.uk

 

New Guinness World Record Set

The Guinness World Record for Largest Accordion Ensemble was broken on the morning of 20th July 2014 and a new record set with a total of 1,361 accordionists all playing together in china at the Guyue Theater in Xixiang Subdistrict, the record breaking event was organised by Hohner China and China Accordion Association. The previous largest accordion ensemble record consisted of 1,137 participants conducted by Martin Tezak at the 2011 Panonika Harmonika Festival in Cerklje ob Krki, in Slovenia on 8 August 2011. Other Accordion World records include: The fastest accordion player Liam O’Connor (Ireland) who played Tico Tico at a speed of 11.67 notes per second on the Rick O’Shea show on 2FM in Dublin, Ireland, on 8 November 2006, as part of Guinness World Records Day. The longest marathon playing accordion which lasted 31 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Anssi Laitinen (Finland) at Koljonvirta Camping Area, Iisalmi, Finland from 31 July to 1 August 2010. Anssi played 536 different songs throughout the attempt.. I (David) realised that I might hold an accordion world record too! The longest time ever to learn the second half of a piece of music!

 

Fylde Folk Festival

This will be held from the 29th to the 31st of August. A festival of traditional and contemporary folk music, song & dance. The festival attracts people from all communities and ages to enjoy national and international performers. Tickets cost £75.
