Our November Concert

Our November concert started with Patrick Halpin playing Amazing Grace, Macalpines Fusiliers, Danny Boy, Two Horses, Dirty Old Town, O Susanna and Galway Bay. Our next player was Arthur Frankland who started with Midnight In Moscow, Arthur continued with Fields Of Athenry, Mysterious Wood, Cavatine, Danny Boy, Waltz D’Amelie, Bonny Banks of Loch Lomond and Little Maid Marian. Rebecca then took to the stage and gave us renditions of Valse Continental, Anchors Aweigh, Drunken Sailor, Home on the Range, Waltz D Amelie, Moon River and, to finish, her final performance was a duet of Plaisir D’mour with David. After the break David Rigby started our second session of the evening, he started his act with Snow Waltz and Que Sera Sera. David continued the entertainment with On Top Of Old Smoky, The Wild Rover, Highland Cathedral, The Spinning Wheel, Let Me Be Your Sweetheart, Beautiful Dreamer, Good Old Summertime, Irish Eyes, Daisy Bell, Mountains Of Mourne and Now Is The House. Ann Parker was the next playing, playing Beer Barrel Polka, Romanze, Chopsticks, Waltz From Faust, Tulips From Amsterdam, Wonder Copenhagen, Tarantella and Bridges Of Paris. Colin Ensor then took to the stage and played Down Forget Me Not Lane, Leaving Lerwick Harbour, Once In A While, Dark Island, You’ll Never Know, May You Always, Sunshine Of your Smile, Someday, Sweetheart Of All My Dreams and Who’s Taking you Home Tonight. After a short break we continued the music with Bernard Bamber playing Do You Want your Old Lobby Washed Down, Mothers Old Arm Chair and I’ll Take You Home Again Kathleen. Sara Daly was our next player to take to the stage, she gave us Sailing Through The Narrous, Save The Last Dance For Me, Mull Of Kintyre, Time In A Bottle and Quando Quando. It was almost the end of the night, and everyone else had played, so I filled in the last ten minutes playing Barcarole, Black Velvet Band, Blackpool Belle and Now Is The Hour.

This Wednesday

This Wednesday is our Christmas Party Jacobs Join night. Please remember to bring along your accordion, or if you don’t play the accordion then bring along yourself instead to support our players. The doors open on Wednesday night at 7.30pm for a prompt 8pm start. Please take this last chance of the year to come along and support the club as well as meeteveryone before Christmas and enjoying a night of musical entertainment and socialising. Please bring along your friends and anyone who might be interested in attending. If you see someone you don’t know then please say hello and make them welcome to the club. See you on Wednesday.

 

This Wednesday – Jacobs Join Christmas Night

This Wednesday is our Jacobs Join Christmas Party night. This is where people bring along something such as sausage rolls, cake, sandwiches, things on sticks or something else to contribute to a feast. We will supply knives, forks, plates and dishes so we can all tuck in to a good buffet while enjoying the entertainment. Our Christmas nights are also our anything goes night of the year where you can play another instrument you play, entertain us with a monologue or your other party piece. Accordion Magic Festival

Following the success of their first Accordion Magic event and the raising of well over £400 Carillon Studios will be organising another for next year in Middlewich. Flying Scotsman in Lancashire

For the first time in ten years the Flying Scotsman will be running in public, it will be in its black undercoat as it builds up its mileage on the East Lancashire railway. It will be the first opportunity for visitors to ride behind the famous engine ahead of its official completion. Largest Morris Dance Record Broken in Preston

Stone the Crows Border Morris Dancers arranged a Guinness world Record Breaking event on the 5th September 2015 at the Flag Market in Preston, They successfully broke the record for the Largest Morris Dance which was previously set by Moreton-in-Marsh Show in Gloucestershire with 88 Dancers on 1st September 2007. The Record requires all the dancers to be at one single location, perform the same dance and to dance for a minimum of 5 minutes. The New Record was set with 145 Dancers from various Morris Dance groups dancing Tinners Rabbit, an area of the flag market was fenced off for the dancers and the Mayor of Preston was one of the official witnesses to the record attempt. Glen Miller Orchestra Concert

Get in the mood as legendary bandleader Ray McVay presents a new show for 2015 complete with Colin Anthony and Catherine Sykes on vocals and added harmonies from the Moonlight Serenaders. Featuring all the Glenn Miller favourites like Tuxedo Junction, Little Brown Jug, American Patrol and, of course, In the Mood as well as songs from other stars and bands of the Miller era.
