Leyland Accordion Club - 19th December 2007

Our December ConcertOur December concert was our Christmast Do and as usual it was a fine feast that we all brought together in a Jacobs Join. The night started as normal with acts on the stage until about 8.45 when the food was ready to be eaten. The stage was then left open and free for anyone to take the 'next spot'. The night started with Colin Ensor playing Under Paris Skies, Try A Little Tenderness, Reine De Musette and Who's Taking You Home Tonight. Basil Berry then played Elmers Tune, You're The Cream In My Coffee, Spanish Eyes and Silent Night. It was now time for the food to be eaten. Phil Sanderson played Christmas carols on the keyboard as we all queued for the massive buffet spread out along the back of the room. After Phil had played it was open stage starting with Tom Bennett and Bob Seed playing Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bells, From Russia With Love, Nobody Does It Better, Goldfinger and Teddy Bears' Picnic. Guy Hindley was our next player. Guy started with Cotswold Morris Medley, which included Juilee Dance, Under Old Myrtle Tree, Flowing Bowl. Jean Southern then gave us Marys Boy Child, Winters Tale, White Christmas, Winter Wonderland and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. Eric and Thelma Dabrowski were our next players on accordion and guitar playing Lady Of Spain, Yellow Bird, Don't Let It Die, Irish Eyes and Summertime. Phil Sanderson and Alan Gelling gave us These Are My Mountains, Let Me Be Your Sweetheart, Swannee River, Little Donkey and Carousel. Ann Parker was our next player, and played Bel Viso, Yodelling Polka and My Florence. Jay and Jean then took to the floor playing Let There Be Love, Down Forget Me Not Lane, What More Can I Say, Georgia and San Antonio Rose. Our final player to end the evening was Rebecca Parker playing Moon River. During the evening the food had been going down well and there was plenty of chat and Christmas card swapping going on. As usual, it had been a great lighthearted Christmas do and a great end to the year. David Batty |

Computer TrainingIf you know of any company looking for computer training in the local area then please tell them to take a look at my website www.skillsacademy.co.uk as a source of computer training. I have business cards promoting the site, and would be grateful if you could pick one up at the club if you know of companies looking to train staff. Thanks. |
American IdolThe tv series American Idol is a spin off from our own Pop Idol programme. This normally features singers or people who think they can sing. So far the programme has always allowed unaccompanied singers but the next series due out soon will be a departure from this format when they allow people to accompany themselves on a musical instrument for the first time. This should be interesting to watch and although most people will choose a guitar to play if then can play anything, I hope a few accordionists get onto the programme. Hopefully the same format will come over here to our own Pop Idol (not that many accordionists sing in relation to the number of players out there). |

Saturday Tuition DaysI have been asked if I am organising some Saturday tuition days like we have held in the past. If you are interested in details of one of these events then please let me know so I know the level of interest. We have held these events before hosted by past guest artists such as Steve Roxton, Johnny Coleclough, Walter Perrie, George Syrett etc. and they have been a great success. If you are interested then please also let me have your suggestions for people you would like to see teaching at any planned events. |
Our New Concert RoomThe tables were a little spread out and thinned a little for our concert night, this was a great improvement on when the room was first refurbished. There used to be too many tables and it was difficult to navigate across the room. But our last concert night went well with plenty of room and good working lights on the stage. Players seem to like the overhead lights which light up your music as you play. |
