Our March ConcertOur March concert started with Colin Ensor playing Music Maestro Please, Sailing By, Enivrante and Sweetheart Of All My Dreams. Ann Parker was next on to the stage playing Black Mask Waltz and Yodelling Polka. After I had played two pieces it was time for our guest artist Steve Roxton to start his first half. Steve opened with the accordion standard Luci E Ombre followed by Wild Rover. A Russian medley then followed which included Song Of The Volga Boatmen and Kalinka. Steve then went on to play and sing a Johnny Cash Medley consisting of I'll Walk The Line, San Quentin and Ring Of Fire. Peter Street was followed by the much slower When I Fall In Love then the March Des Accordeonist Lyonnais and Sous Le Ceil De Paris. Playing separate parts on each hand steve then played the classical piece Minuete In G by Bach. The next medley was McNamaras Band, Danny Boy and Irish Washer Woman. Irish Rover was followed by the tango Jealousy. A french medley followed, Un Gamin A Paris, Le Deicher and Reine De Musette. It was now the end of the first half and time for the break so Steve played She Wears My Ring for Harry and Audrey who were celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary. After the break Tom Bennett played a selection of tunes before Steve Roxton started his second half. with The Little Penguin followed by La Danza and the Mantovani hit, Charmaigne. We speeded up greatly with Rock Around The Clock before returning to the slow 12th of Never followed by La Gracias Dame De Paris. Is This The Way To Amarillo led up to Princess D'Accordeon and a medley consisting of Island In The Sun, Brown Girl In The Ring and Kiss Me Honey Honey. Someone left a beermat on the stage in front of Steve with a request for him to play the 1812 overture which he duly did complete with vocal effects on the mic to simulate the explosions going off. This was a piece Steve first released on his LP back in the 1970's and was probably remembered by someone in the audience. We changed to a Scottish medley next with Scotland The Brave, Stop Yer Tickling Jock, Loch Lomond and Bluebell Polka. It was now Germanys turn with Im Munchen Steht, a selection of German drinking songs and Roll Out The Barrell to finish the medley. It was nearing the end of the night now so we slowed down with He'll Have to Go followed by Anna Marie, both Jim Reeves tunes. To finish Steve played Fleur De Paris, As I Love You and then an old time medley including tunes such as Who Were You With Last Night, Yes Sir That's My Baby and Swannee. His final piece was Jerusalem, but the crowd wanted more so he gave it to them with Whistling Rufus, then a medley of tunes including Bless Em All, Que Sera Sera, California Here I Come, When Your Smiling Land Of Hope And Glory Auld Lang Syne and finally Goodbye From The White Horse Inn. Steve had entertained us for about 2 hours 15 minutes, playing and singing around 60 different pieces. From the comments I got as people were leaving it seems the night went down extremely well with everyone I spoke to and a good time was had by all. David Batty |

How it's Made - AccordionThe discovery channel is once again showing the program featuring how an accordion is made, it's on the 25th of April at 8am and again at 5pm. The accordion they are making is a simple two row button accordion rather than a full sized accordion but it's still interesting to see how the things are made. |

Alexander Korbakov TourAlexander Korbakov is on tour from St Petersburg in Russia. He will be touring the UK in June and July. His concert dates are:- June 3rd - South East Cornwall Accordion Club The last date in that tour is in a church at southport where they have regular musical concerts during the week, it's well worth attending that concert which is also the most local venue to us. The church is on Lord Street, opposite the shops, they usually have a sign outside pointing in to the church advertising their concerts. |
